Jim Pickering, Sr.
Jim Pickering Sr, 87, of Iowa City, passed away surrounded by family on April 24, 2023.
Jim was born and raised in Newton, Iowa. He moved to Iowa City after graduating Newton High School "Class of '54", to work and attend the University of Iowa. He met his wife of 62 years, Cecilia, on St. Patrick's Day in 1958.
Jim loved nothing more than meeting new people and making new friends wherever he went.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Myrtle, and his sister Marilyn. Jim is survived by his sister Phyllis, his wife Cecilia, his sons Jim Jr, Andy, Matt and his wife Becca and their daughter Stella Rose, and his many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. However, friends and family will be gathering after 5:15pm April 28th Friday Mass at the Newman Catholic Student Center in Iowa City.
