Matthew "Matt" Angerer
RIP Old Friend.
So sad to find out that Matt passed away just after getting to know him through "A Walk in the Woods". He must have been a real extraordinary person if people still get such a positive vibe from his personality. I'm glad he could be known by more people thanks to Bill Bryson. People like that are usually modest, not visible, never aiming high, struggling but trying to keep up...and among their closest crowd thy are known as great companions, simple and cheerfully souls. I believe Matthew was like that, just a good person... but is it only that? In the world where everyone wants to mean something and everything starts to mean nothing, a simple good person is of the greatest value
Forever, in my heart
Broke my heart to hear of Matthews passing. He was a good man and a good friend. Always remembered and ever loved. Rest in peace Matt
Matt, you always made me laugh. Your joy and wit and deep intelligence were things I shall always treasure. I'll never forget the time you gave me a ride in your ambulance from Des Moines to Iowa City. It was one of the scariest and also the most delightful experiences of my life. You lived, oh how you lived. We'll miss you, brother.
My brother has passed. Always will be loved and memories cherished. B
Rest in Peace, Katz!
Matt was someone I remember well from UofI. Since moving back to the DM area, I’d often thought of looking him up online, to see if he was in the area. Sadly I didn’t do that until now and find that it’s too late. RIP my long lost friend.
I only knew you through Bill Bryson’s books. You made me chuckle
RIP Mr Angerer from here in the UK. To add to the many kind messages on this site. Good to have friends like these. In your movie disguise as Stephen Katz you've given me a lift today, when I've bee feeling a bit down.
Mary, I was so sorry to hear about Matt’s death. I will forever remember his infectious smile and hearty laugh as we worked at IRIS Radio. What a treasure he was. My sympathies to you and your entire family. Cecilia Benetti
What a wonderful new friend I found about five years ago in Matt. We shared a love of vinyl records and had interesting conversations about music, Iowa City, Politics and much more. I was saddened to hear the news that he had passed. I went on a long walk when I heard and had Marvin Gaye playing on the way out and of course James Brown on the way in. What a great guy and he will surely be missed. RIP Matt.
Brought tears to my eyes when I heard belatedly our dear Matthw had transitioned. Over the many years we shared between us a mutual predilection for good music, literature and political discourse. Always witty, funny, sensitive and thoughtful he was. I was blessed to enjoy his close friendship; the indelible memories and his spirit will be held dear.
Matty Dread I recently returned home from Dead & Co (Grateful Dead, your second favorite band, ha ha) summer tour with my son Zach who took to heart your guidance about alcoholism, it helped to change his life for better and we can never thank you enough for that, and learned of your passing. Will forever cherish our lunches together and having you over to my place for just catching up and reliving our days of working at WSJ. Thanks for your musical knowledge and the Christmas card competition, I looked forward to it every year. Your a good man and a great friend. RIP brother
Matt was a good friend. I’ll miss his friendship. I’ll miss his politically incorrect jokes. I’ll miss him telling me James Brown stories and castigating Republicans. I’ll missing getting mixtapes from “Scratchy Records”. I’ll miss his colorful stories. They broke the mold when they made Matty D.
So sad to read this. Please call me Mary 515.371.4094. Sara
