Steven Patrick McDonough

Steven Patrick McDonough, 77, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, June 2, 2023, at Genesis East, following surgical complications.

Steve was born February 11, 1946, in Waseca, Minnesota to Art and Bunny (Gaughan) McDonough. He attended school in Waseca. He was a truck driver for 52 years. Steve married Sherry Whitehead on February 24, 1984, in DeWitt. Sherry preceded him in death on May 12, 2018.

Steve was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He enjoyed playing cards and watching wrestling. Steve loved animals, especially dogs. Above all, he enjoyed people and everyone he met.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Jay) Thomas and family of Madelia, Minnesota; son, Mark (Connie) Welp and family of Bradenton, Florida; son, DJ (Jaime) McDonough of DeWitt; brother, Mike McDonough of Owatonna, Minnesota; brother, Craig (Cheryl) McDonough of Waseca, Minnesota; sister, Peggy (Dave) Wecker of Carver, Minnesota; brother-in-law, John (Denise) Whitehead of Ocala, Florida; five grandchildren, Maggie, Myra, and Ella McDonough, and Ireland and Ayden McManus, all of DeWitt; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Steve was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maureen Proechel; a brother, Merle McDonough; and a brother, Dennis McDonough.

A celebration of life will be from 3 until 6 PM, Saturday, June 24, at the American Legion in DeWitt. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
