Patricia Joann Quick

Patricia Joann (Burd) Quick, slipped away peacefully at Bickford Cottage on Wednesday May 10, 2023, at the age of 88. Per her wishes, Pat will be cremated, and no services will be held.

Pat was born June 11, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa, and graduated from Indianola High School in 1952.  Pat and Terry married on July 1,1961 in Cedar Rapids. She earned her degree in 1955 from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines. Pat worked in a local private practice, then in the family business Burd Siding and Window, until the early 1990s, when she returned to nursing.  Pat was reluctant to slow down, so she continued working part time well into 'retirement,' officially leaving St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids at the age of 75.

In retirement Pat & Terry enjoyed traveling in their RV to visit friends and family in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, and North Carolina. At home, Pat & Terry enjoyed their acreages, allowing Pat to fulfill her love for gardening, canning, and making wine. Her other passions were cooking and spending time with family, attending monthly luncheons with fellow RNs, playing piano, collecting cups & saucers, and shopping for deals.

Pat is survived by her siblings, Tom (Edie) Burd of Toddville, and Sue (Jim) Dyer of Marion; children, Michael (Jessie) Quick of Lamont, and Staci (Rachael) Quick of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Joshua Quick, Shawna Quick, and Zoey Quick-Moos; along with many treasured nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband Terry, her mother Florence Elizabeth Opitz and her father Ambrose Clement Burd.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Bickford Cottage in Marion as well as the wonderful staff of St Croix hospice.
