Margaret Frances Barcus

Margaret Frances Barcus, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on February 5th, 2024. Margaret was born on October 4th, 1935 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Francis and Ethel Murray. She graduated from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Margaret was formally married to Harold Barcus and they along with their children resided in Des Moines. She started working at Broadlawns Hospital in 1970 as an Admissions Clerk. She continued working her way up until she retired as the Department Director in 1999. Upon retirement, she started working at Younkers. She loved finding the discounts and yellow dot deals during her 10 years of working at the Merle Hay Mall location. She loved her work there and she made many friends that she maintained through her life.

She devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren over the years. She never missed a performance, graduation, birthday or other family event. Her greatest wish was to see all of her grandchildren graduate from high school. Not only did she get to see them all graduate from high school, she was able to see them graduate from college as well.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Mike Barcus (Patty), Dave Barcus (LaVina) and Mary Ann Hovda (Craig), her 10 grandchildren, Beth Foster (Steve), Jenny Kim (Joe), Brad Barcus (Liesl), Shaylena Bell (Jordon), Allyson Hovda, Heather Hodges (Austin), Eric Hovda, John Hovda, Matthew Hovda, and Kristen Hovda and her 10 great-grandchildren, Mia Kim, Matthew Foster, Miley Kim, Andrew Foster, Kallie Hodges, Nora Bell, Carson Hodges, Madelyn Bell, Brooks Barcus and Margo Barcus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Mary Jo Lorge, Betty Lutz and James Murray and her infant son Danny Barcus.

A funeral Mass will be held at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church (1906 Sycamore St. Granger, Iowa 50109) at 10am on Saturday, February 10, 2024. A luncheon tofollow for all friends and family at the American Legion Hall Post 232 (114 W. Broadway St. Polk City, IA 50226) from 11:30-2pm.
