Michael Lewis Pugh

Michael L. Pugh, age 73 of Columbus Junction, Iowa, passed away Friday March 22, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital after his battle with lung cancer and COPD.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 6, 2024 at The American Legion in Columbus Junction, Iowa.  The private Masonic Rites will be conducted prior to the celebration at noon. The Celebration of Life will start at 1:00 P.M. with Mike Jay delivering the eulogy.

Mike “OC” Pugh was born December 27, 1950 in Burlington, Iowa to Frances “Sally” (Salladay) and Richard C. “Dick” Pugh. He graduated from Columbus Community High School with the class of 1969. Mike spent over 50 years with the local telephone company retiring in 2021. There are still many stories and memories about when Mike owned the local “Oasis” from 1990-2006. Mike was a member of The Son’s of the American Legion, a 50 year member of Columbus City Masonic Lodge #107, a member of the Louisa County Shrine Club and the KAABA Shrine of Davenport, Iowa.

Throughout his adult life, Mike enjoyed parading, spending time at the cabin and attending other Shrine events with his fellow Shriners.  He was an avid golfer and a lifetime member of the Columbus Junction Cedarcrest Country Club.  He enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes and was a big wrestling fan.  Mike had many Cocker Spaniel dogs and loved them dearly.  Most recently, if you were driving through town, you might see Mike taking his beloved Cooper out for a drive. Those that knew him well, knew they just had to look for the neon lights in the garage window-if they were on, you knew you could stop and would find OC sitting in his garage watching television and he would be happy to have a cold one with you.

Mike is survived by his two children, his significant other and their families: His son, Nick (Dannisha) Pugh of Solon, IA and their kids; Aira and Oaken Foster. His Daughter, Salina (Nick) Hemann of Solon, IA and their girls; Elynn and Harper Hemann. His significant other Lisa Reynolds of Columbus Junction, IA and her sons; Adam and Andrew Weber. He is also survived by his two brothers, Dave (Candy) Pugh and Mark (Tammy Watts) Pugh, all of Columbus Junction along with his two nieces, two nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Dick” Pugh and Frances “Sally” Pugh and his sister-in-law Pamela “Pam” Pugh.

Mike’s final resting place will be at the Columbus City Cemetery. A private burial will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Louisa County Shine Club.  114 Hilltop Rd. Columbus Junction, IA 52738.
