Sharon Timm-Hoffman

On Thursday March 21, 2024 a wonderful woman, Sharon Timm-Hoffman, passed from this world to be with her Lord.  Though she endured memory loss and its complications, we take comfort that she is whole again and all who knew and loved her remember her living a life full of love and adventures with friends and family.

Sharon was born on September 6, 1940, to Howard and Edna (Jagerson) Adams in the Jagerson family farm outside Madrid, IA.  Sharon and her family lived in town and Sharon graduated from Madrid High School where she lettered in basketball and baton twirling.  She was also in Drama Club, Pep Club, Mixed Chorus, Girl’s Glee, an editor of the yearbook and was a participant in the 1959 Boone County Beauty Pageant.

Sharon attended college at Northeast Missouri State University (now called Truman State).  In college she joined the Delta Zeta Sorority and made a whole new slew of friends, including her first husband, Doug Timm.  After graduating in 1963 with a major in Teaching and Physical Education, she and Doug were married and had a daughter, Tracy.  With Doug being a Marine in the military and spending a lot of time overseas, Sharon and Tracy moved to Camp Lejeune North Carolina where she taught English. After Doug was out of the military, they moved to Donahue, Iowa where Sharon taught at Fox Valley and North Scott for several years.  When Doug and Sharon got divorced in 1970, Sharon got a job as the high school girls PE teacher, cheerleading sponsor and girls assistant track coach in Washington, Iowa.  She stayed in Washington until Tracy graduated in 1982.

Sharon also went back to Northeast Missouri State and obtained her Master’s Degree in Education, and in 1983 she made a change within the education field and joined American Institute of Business in Des Moines where she was in Housing.  She moved to Tarkio College in 1986 and was the Dean of Housing until 1989, when she returned to AIB where she became the coordinator of their new night school Business Management program for working adults.  Later she coordinated the adult education program for Grand View College at Stark Armory in Johnston.  She always considered herself an educator and coach and was a living example of a “life-long learner.”

Her favorite passion was going to the Drake Relays every year, whether as a coach or a spectator.  She was so proud when she was recognized for her 40th consecutive year of attending the Drake Relays in 2015.

She loved to travel and explore out-of-the way places. She traveled to many locations around the U.S. as well as to Ireland, London, and Brazil.  There was never a dull moment with Sharon and she was always full of life.  She never went somewhere that she didn’t make a friend, and in 2003 she married her second husband, Delmar Hoffman.  She also loved reading, country music, and making a joyful noise in church.

Sharon will be fondly remembered by her daughter Tracy (Tony) Arbogast, Ankeny, IA, her grandsons Chad Arbogast, Ankeny, IA, and Aaron Arbogast, Pensacola, FL, along with her great-grandchildren Gracie, Faith, Jameson and Parker Arbogast, Ankeny, IA and Jackson and Daphne Arbogast, Pensacola, FL.  She had several nieces, nephews and cousins on both the Adams and Jagerson sides.  She had many, many wonderful friends who loved her and excellent care givers at Rock Creek Senior Living.

Although it is hard for those whom she has left behind, we know she is with her Lord and was greeted in heaven by her parents, her husband Del, her sister, Shirley, brothers Ron and Clyde, and reunited with the many other loved ones and friends she lost over the years.

The celebration of Sharon’s life will be Wednesday March 27th at 11:00 am at the West Des Moines Christian Church, 4501 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines, IA 50265.  A private family burial will be held at a later time.

Flowers can be sent directly to the church and any donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association or to West Des Moines Christian Church.
