Todd Christopher Smith, 57, of Des Moines, passed away on May 8th, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by loved ones. Born in Springfield, IL, Todd was the son of H. Don and Shirley Smith.
A Grinnell High School graduate, Todd received a degree in Business at the University of Northern Iowa. Todd had two children, Emily and Nathan, with his former spouse Amy Smith. He worked at Grinnell Mutual for 14 years before moving to Des Moines where he enjoyed time with his grandchildren, Brooks and Nolan Moore. He had a passion for antique engines and working on cars. He also enjoyed reading and developing creative culinary recipes.
Todd is survived by his children, Emily (Randall) Moore and Nathan (Miranda) Smith; his grandchildren, Brooks and Nolan Moore; his mother, Shirley Shaw; his brother, Troy (Kari) Smith; stepsister Kathy (Andy) Chiero; four nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father, H. Don Smith; stepfather, Dennis Shaw; maternal grandparents, Kermit and Melba Saville; and paternal grandparents, Howard Smith and Norma Pottorff.
A private memorial service will be held for family on Saturday, May 11th to honor Todd's life and legacy.
