Daniel D. Miller

Daniel D. Miller, 87 of Manilla, Iowa went home to his Lord and Savior on November 30th, 2024 in Laredo, Texas. He was born on January 20th, 1937 to Peter John and Maurecia (Noonen) Miller in Westphalia, Iowa. 

He was baptized in Westphalia, IA and later confirmed in Coon Rapids June 1945. He attended country school in Coon Rapids and graduated high school from Rockwell City. He always said his father never liked to stay in one place too long, so he and his siblings moved several times while growing up. Following high school he enlisted in the Army on March 3rd, 1958 and was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he attended and completed Airborne School and joined the 101st Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged June 30th, 1962. This, he was very proud of. 

In November 1962 he married Velda (Greer) Miller. Together they made their home in rural Shelby County. Into this Union two children were born: Danny and Mary (Miller) Harper. 

Daniel was a man of many trades but spent most of his working years as a farmer. Dad/Grandpa always said the work was never done and if you were standing still he would put you right to work. He spent his life enjoying the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He met Sharon Fast in May 1991, together they loved traveling, spending their summers at the farm and winters in Zapata, TX where they had many friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Velda, parents: Peter and Maurecia, brothers: Patrick, Jim, Mike, Jeremiah and Bob Miller. 

He is survived by his partner, Sharon Fast; children Danny Miller of Manilla, Mary Harper of Walnut, step-daughters Jamie Fast of Jefferson, Patty Fast and family of Spirit Lake; son in law Jeff Peters of Pagosa Springs, CO; sister Sheila Cline of Lohrville; brother Giles Miller of Des Moines; Grandchildren Jessica (Ryan) Schellhorn of Manning, Jacob (Bridgette) Miller of Spirit Lake, Jana Stock of Manning, IA, Wesley (Whitney) Peters of Oak Creek, CO, Nicholas Peters of Steamboat Springs, CO, Kristen (Sam) Godfrey of Fruita, CO, Rosemary Harper of Walnut, IA; Step-grandchildren Jonathan (Emily) Fast of Jefferson, IA, Dylan Fast of Okoboji, IA; Great-Grandchildren: Jackson, Walker, Annabelle, Abram, Wrenly, Ameila and one more on the way; step great-grandchildren James, Lucas and Piper. 

Services will be held on May 24th, 2025 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Defiance, IA at 11:00 am with luncheon to follow at St. Peters Hall as well as a private family burial.
