Norma L. Ritchie, 95, of Cedar Rapids passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024, in Cedar Rapids surrounded by family and friends.  Memorial Visitation for Norma will be held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home Monday, November 25, 2024, 3:00 pm until the 5:00 pm Memorial Service. Interment will be private.

Norma Lee Overton Ritchie "Normy" was born on October 19,1929 in Kansas City, Missouri to Viola McGee and Delmar Overton. She moved to Cedar Rapids when she was a young girl and married Jack Ritchie. They later divorced. She then worked at Collins and went back to school to learn the beauty of fixing people's hair, which became important to her. She lived in many places and later moved to Moundview Manor where she made many friends. She really enjoyed her years there where she could use her cooking skills through the many potlucks and holiday parties they had there. Many of them helped mom stay there when it became a challenge for her. The decision was made to move her to Corridor Crossing Place to aid her in her daily activities and we assured her she could get her hair done every week. Angels lived among us and we were assured in the way they cared for our mom every single day. She just celebrated her 95th birthday a couple of weeks ago by sharing cupcakes with the other residents. But she was getting weaker all the time and we were blessed with Mercy Hospice to assist us to keep her there. She went with dignity and showed us how to live life.

Left to share her memories are Thomas (Florie) Ritchie, Penny Spencer, Melody Turner (John Schriner), Jane (Bill) Jordan, Jennifer (Chuck) Vento; many grandchildren; great- grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren who called her “Grandmama”; several nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Viola and Delmar Overton, her stepfather, Francis Payton, an infant son, Michael, Her brother, Delmar Overton, jr. and her sister, Dorothy Wolfe.

We are so thankful to the staff and people who work at Corridor Crossing for the care they gave our mother. We would also like to thank Hospice of Mercy for the wonderful care they gave to Norma. And we ask that any memorials be given to Oldorf Hospice House 315-18th Avenue Hiawatha, Iowa 52233

We would also like to thank Iowa Cremation for the assistance for the family.
