Reed Donald Newstrom
Reed Donald Newstrom, 73, of West Union, IA, passed away on October 1st, 2024. Reed was born on September 1st, 1951, to the late Donald and Jeanne (Griffin) Newstrom in Grand Rapids, MN. He had 3 siblings, Laurie Jeanne, MaryLee, and Jon Carl.
After he graduated from high school in 1969, he continued to receive an associate’s degree in insurance and marketing. He met his first wife Sushma Newstrom while working in North Dakota.. They were united in marriage on August 5th, 1978 and shared over 25 years together, raising their two children, Patrick Newstrom and Shalini (Newstrom) Douglas in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area, before Sushma’s untimely passing in 2005.
Reed found love again in West Union with Sheila (Anderson) Kapler where they were united in marriage on July 18, 2010 and blended their families where Reed embraced Sheila’s children, Christi-An (John) Miceli, and Christian (Tanya) Kapler.
Reed enjoyed outdoor activities, whether fishing, playing and watching sports, playing cribbage, or just walking in nature. He faithfully served with the Gideon’s spreading the Good New. Reed was truly thankful for the forgiveness of his sins through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Reed is survived by his wife, Sheila; his children, Patrick (Melissa) Newstrom, Shalini (Craig) Douglas, step children; Christi-An (John) Miceli, and Christian (Tanya) Kapler; his grandchildren, Amit Newstrom, Kareena and Kaiden Douglas, step grandchildren; Annastasia and Brett Miceli, and Victoria (Colin) Richard, Jeremiah, Nehemiah, Josiah, Uriah, Tayler Kapler; his siblings, Laurie (Tom) Fruth, MaryLee (Wayne) Raley, and Jon Newstrom and step great-grandchildren Cylas Kapler and Charles Richard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Jeanne Newstrom; his first wife, Sushma Newstrom.
Funeral Service will be held at 3pm Saturday October 26, 2024 at CrossFire Church in West Union, IA. Visitation will be held from 1-3pm before the service. A family Graveside Service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, in Grand Rapids, MN.
