Gary Fairbanks
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Fairbanks, 88, on April 13th, 2025. The family plans to have a celebration of life with a jam session on April 26th from 12-5 PM at Wild Hogs Saloon in Walford, Iowa.
Born on July 16th, 1936, Gary lived a vibrant and full life, enveloping everyone he met with his love of music, zest for life, and incomparable charm. The beloved husband of Raejean Fairbanks, whom he married in 1976, his life was enriched by the cherished moments and delightful memories he created with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. Gary spent his life doing windows and siding, and eventually started his own business, Artistic Siding and Windows.
Gary’s love for music went far beyond mere appreciation. It was his passion and his favorite pastime. He was a lifelong county music fan and a skilled steel guitarist. Gary’s love for music led him and Raejean to join several bands, including The Morning After Band. They sold out venues and won achievements like The Wrangler State Contest in the Iowa National Competition and then went on to compete in Nashville in 1982.
An avid fisher, Gary loved to unwind with his fishing rod, floating around the lake with a beer. He also loved golfing. On rare occasions, when he was not fishing, golfing, or playing music, you could find Gary enjoying a hand of poker with his friends. He also enjoyed watching the History Channel, National Geographic, All in the Family, Two and a Half Men, Price is Right, and Family Feud. For Gary, there was nothing better than good steak, accompanied by his favorite Old Milwaukee beer. He was also known for his funny stories and hilarious jokes.
He is survived by his wife and children, Rose (EJ) Ames, Nina (Joe) Graciana, Gary (Kelly) Adams, Cindi (Roy) Fairbanks, Brian (LaDonna) Fairbanks, Kelly (Jason) Fairbanks, Amy (Mike) Horns; nineteen grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren; and his sister, Kathy Gray.
Gary is preceded in death by Father, William Fairbanks and Mother, Oma Knapp Bosacker; infant twin sons, Gary and Joseph; brothers, Bill, Ron and Keith; sister, Janet; great granddaughter, Olivia; and great-great grandson, EZ.
