Kimberly "Kim" Kay Miller
Kimberly "Kim" Kay Miller, born on August 18, 1959, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center, following a courageous battle with respiratory issues. Kim was a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother whose warm spirit and unwavering dedication to her family will be deeply missed.
She was the daughter of James Alden Aikey and Anne Marie Bush Aikey and was preceded in death by her loving parents, as well as her sister, Kris Knapp, and brother, Randy Aikey.
Kim is survived by her three children, Michael (Erin) Miller of Denver, Iowa, Matt Miller of Waterloo, Iowa, and Heather Miller of Waterloo, Iowa. Her legacy lives on through her six cherished grandchildren: Kyler, Nick, Caleb, Nate, Ben, and Abby, who were the light of her life.
Kim's educational journey began at Cedar Falls High School, where she graduated in 1977. A dedicated worker, she devoted 48 years of her life to supporting her family. For 33 years, she was employed at Viking Pump in Cedar Falls, before continuing her career at notable companies such as John Deere, Ryder Logistics, Ferguson, and ultimately, Bossard North America, where she retired in October of 2024.
On May 6, 1978, she married Ron Miller, a union that would last for 16 years, and in that time, they built a family that would be the cornerstone of her life. Kim was a woman who thrived on family connection, often reminding those around her of the importance of cherishing every moment. With a heart full of love, she would often say, “I’ll do it tomorrow,” a testament to her laid-back approach to life and her ability to find joy in the little things.
Beyond her role as a mother and grandmother, Kim had a variety of passions that brought her immense joy. She traveled many miles with her sister Julie, exploring quilt shops and indulging in flower shopping. Kim’s love for quilting kept her hands busy and her heart fulfilled, while her summers were spent nurturing a garden bursting with hundreds of flowers around her home. Cooking and baking were also among her cherished hobbies, with family gatherings often filled with delicious meals, lovingly prepared by her.
Kim was a woman of great character, devoted entirely to her children and grandchildren, embodying the essence of selflessness. She created a warm home filled with laughter, love, and the fragrance of fresh blooms. Her absence will leave an irreplaceable void in the lives of all who loved her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the MercyOne ICU team for their exceptional care during Kim's final days, as well as to the Iowa Donor Network for their vital work.
In accordance with her wishes, Kim will be cremated, and a celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.
