Margaret Ann Hirschfeld

Margaret Ann (Sparrow) Hirschfeld 83, of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at Country House in Cedar Rapids. Per her request, there will be no services at this time.

Maggie was born near Keswick, Iowa to Glen and Orba Green on April 8th, 1942. After the untimely passing of her father, her mother met and married Melvin Sparrow who promptly adopted Maggie and her older sister, Barbara. Growing up on the family farm instilled a nonstop work ethic that she maintained throughout her life. Maggie left the family farm to attend UCLA and the University of Iowa, earning her degree as a dental hygienist. She met the love of her life, Bob Hirschfeld, and they were married in December of 1963.

Maggie worked as a dental hygienist, and at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids before deciding to change her career. She began working as a closing officer for Gibson Realty, which became Iowa Realty. She worked there for the rest of her career and made many great friends that she maintained after retirement.

She shared a passion for golf with her husband, which they enjoyed playing after work and tournaments on weekends. If they were not playing golf, they were attending their grandsons’ sport and school activities. During the winter months, they headed south to Fort Myers, FL for many years. Maggie won the course championship in 2017 against woman twice her size and half her age, which she quietly enjoyed.

Survivors include her son, Bob (Terri) Hirschfeld; grandsons, Zachary (Kaleigh) and Nathan (Sierra); sister, Deb (Kurt) Miller; brothers, Jon, Duane, and a sister-in-law Deb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents, and her sister, Barbara (Sparrow) Fancher.

Maggie was a fantastic mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She will be missed by those who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Alzheimer's Association or the Humane Society.

We would like to thank Country House and their staff for their wonderful care.
