Harold Moyer

Harold Moyer was born on August 1, 1937, and he passed away peacefully at home with his family, on August 31, 2025, after a brief battle with dementia.

Harold “Peewee” Moyer was born in Malcom, Iowa to John & Mildred (Strong) Moyer. He was one of 13 siblings.

He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1957. He married Beverly Green in 1957. They had 4 children, Ron, Laura “Bean”, Bill and Doug.

Harold was a jack of all trades he could do anything; He worked on Interstate 80 when it was being built. He worked for Grinnell College in the maintenance area.  He owned and operated Moyer’s Shoe Service from 1966 to 1977, then he purchased the Koffee Shoppe with his wife Bev. They operated the Koffee Shoppe with their family until he retired in 1998, he made many, many donuts over the years. While at the Koffee Shoppe he helped next door at Edwards Grocery. He delivered groceries, stocked shelves, whatever they needed assistance with. He was a friend to many and willing to help anyone who needed it.  Peewee also served on the City Council for 12 years. He was a member of the Oddfellows and the Eagles Club. 

Harold had many hobbies over the years, he and Bev enjoyed roller skating, they were part of card club, he was a hunter, he was an umpire for fastball at Merrill Park, he was an avid bowler he appeared on the Let’s Go Bowling TV show, he owned racehorses, he collected Budweiser merchandise. He followed the Iowa Hawkeyes.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Beverly, daughter Laura (Dwaine) Elliott, and sons Bill (Lisa) & Doug. His grandchildren Eric Moyer, Stephani (Neath) Castillo, Melissa (Cody) Byers, Chelsea (Mike) Dickenson Jr., Andrew & Grace Moyer, Brennen Horton, Karlee (Nathan) Sparks.  Great grandchildren, Salarah and Sapheah Castillo, Allie & Tucker Pierce and Elliott Dickenson, Elizabeth Horton, Ayla Moyer, Sterling Sparks. Siblings Dean “Diz” Moyer, Karol “Toodie” Gilliland, Mary (John) Schmidt, and Joyce Lincoln. Sister in laws Marcella & Shirley Moyer. Many, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Ron Moyer, a grandson Lee Elliott, his parents, siblings, Arlene (Harold) Pierce, John Jr., Jim (Mildred), Bob (Eunice), Frank, Maxine Osborn (Keith), Allan, and Roger (Joan).

A celebration of life will be held at the Eagles Club in Grinnell on September 18th from 2 to 6. A meal with be provided.
