Obituary for Roger Wayne Elwood

Roger Wayne Elwood, 87, of Grimes, Iowa, was delivered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday morning, July 6, 2025.

Roger was born in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Robert and Ruth (Larson) Elwood. He grew up around Joice, Iowa, where he graduated from high school and went on to earn an Associate Degree from Hamilton Business School in Mason City, Iowa. He later earned his CPA and spent all of his working years as an accountant with various companies. He spent his final 15 years working for First Call Construction, where he became a part of the First Call family, and continued working for them until age 82. For ten years, Roger and his wife, Norita, enjoyed winters in Florida with many friends and numerous rounds of golf. Roger and Norita would have celebrated 40 years of marriage in December.

Roger is survived by his wife, Norita; children, Kathy (Mark) Masten, Karla (Tom) Hogan, Kevin (Julie) Elwood, and Kim (Trudy) Elwood; stepchildren, Doug (Diane) Gumm, Tim (Carol) Gumm, Jeff (Sharon) Gumm, Alan (Gayle) Gumm, and Mary (Habib) Issah; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, John (Sandra) Elwood; and sister, Beverly (Gordon Johnson) Rowland. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 20, at Prairie Creek Church, Grimes, Iowa, with family visitation at 2:30 p.m., service at 3:30 p.m., followed by food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Roger’s name to the Grimes Storehouse (food pantry).
