Carl Jake Moor

Carl Jake Moor passed away peacefully at home to the well-lived age of 97 on 28 June 2025 in Des Moines, Iowa. Carl was born in Henry, Nebraska on 05 October 1927 to parents Wilhem and Amalie (Frick) Moor. He married Rebecca Ruth (Saylor) Peters on 14 June 1963 in Gering, Nebraska and they were able to celebrate their 62nd Wedding Anniversary together.

Carl was the beloved husband of Rebecca, a loving father to Barbara Lee (Peters) Kenneth George and Tammie Peters, Connie Jo (Peters-Moor) Helton and Carlos Rodriguez, Sherrill Ruth (Moor) and Frederick Hayghe and Laureen Ann (Moor) and Lloyd Williams, along with 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Carl has been preceded in death by his parents, Wilhelm and Amalie Moor, his two older sisters: Frieda (Moor) Hort and Olinda (Moor) Schmidt, and his younger brother, Heinrick Wilhelm (Willie) Moor.

Carl was of the era where he completed the 8th Grade and then started working as a farmer with his father. He joined the Selective Service and spent 5-years in the U.S. Army as a Corporal in the Military Police. During his military time, he served during the Korean War, and he also received the World War II Victory Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal. Besides being a farmer and Soldier, Carl was also an over-the-road truck driver for more than 45-years.

Carl loved spending time with his family when not on the road. He loved telling and re-telling the same stories to anyone who would listen. He loved being around kids, especially those under the age of two – they were kindred spirits! He was also a big flirt with any female no matter the age, because he was a jokester and wanted to make them laugh. Finally, he was ornery when it came to picking on us kids, his caregivers, nurses, and anyone he could give a hard time too.

A special thank you to all the caregivers, care-sitters, special guests, Case Manager - Mary and Heartland Hospice for all your care and support.

We will be holding a “Celebration of Life” for Carl on Saturday, 05 July 2025 from 1000 – 1300 hours (10:00-1:00 pm) at AFSCME, 4320 NW 2nd Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50313. Carl was not a fancy guy, so please dress comfortably for the occasion – Not your Sunday Best. The Family asks that instead of sending flowers, we ask you to donate to honor Carl and ALL Caregivers to “Make-a-Wish Foundation” at secure2.wish.org, to your Local Animal Humane Society or Local Shelter, or to one of the following organizations: Military Veteran Project (MVP), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), or United Service Organizations (USO). This would mean the world to our dad, as he always wanted to help others. Thank you for your support.

NOTE:  Interment at Iowa Veterans Cemetery will take place at a later date to be determined (TBD).
