Gladys Faye Burns
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gladys Burns who passed away on June 28, 2025 at Newton Medical Center with her son and daughter by her bedside.
Gladys was born on July 29, 1933 in Prairie City, Iowa to Ralph and Mabel Roberts. She was a graduate of Iowa Lutheran Hospital College of Nursing and obtained her Registered Nurse degree. She worked in several places as a nurse including Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, the doctor’s office in Prairie City, Clearview Manor in Prairie City, and at Blue Cross Blue Sheild in Des Moines.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband George Kenneth (Bert) Taylor, her second husband Hubert Burns, her brother Raymond Roberts and his wife Mary Lou, her brother Harold Roberts and his wife Betty, and her sister Louise Steenhoek and her husband Darrell.
She is survived by her son Jim Taylor (wife Joyce), her daughter Sherry McGinn (husband John), her grandchildren Joel Stravers (wife Chrishelle), Shannon Stravers, Jason Taylor (wife Cassy), Jared Taylor, Jackie Mars (husband Josh), and Destinee McGinn, and her great-grandchildren Ethan Stravers, Haylee Stravers, Brayden Mars, Laird Mars, Piper Stravers, Emery Mars, Thea Mars, and Èamon Taylor.
Gladys was a lifelong resident of Prairie City. She found joy in cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, and putting together puzzles. She had an infectious laugh and an unwavering support for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 5th from 6 – 8 pm at the Prairie City Community Center. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Iowa Donor Network.
