Barbara Jean Murphy Petersen

Barbara Jean Murphy Petersen, 77, passed away March 27, 2025, at The Vistas in Bettendorf surrounded by her children. Barb was born on December 27, 1947, to Burns and Jeanne Murphy. Barb married Steve Petersen in 1966, they later divorced. Out of their union came four children. Barb had resided in Dewitt her whole life until moving to the Vistas in June of 2022. Barb enjoyed playing cards and was an avid bowler for many years. Barb was a bartender and cashier her whole life. Barb loved spending time with her family and her friends. 

Barb is survived by her children, daughter, Amy (Darrin) Scott, of Valparaiso, Indiana; son, Scott (Lynn) Petersen, of Low Moor, Iowa, son, Chad Petersen, of Clinton Iowa, and daughter, Kelli Petersen of Low Moor, Iowa; granddaughter, Kaiti Scott (Sweet Girl) of Valparaiso, Indiana; grandsons Tyler Maynard (Little Man), and Cole Petersen (Pumpkin) both of Dewitt IA; great granddaughter, Hayzel Maynard of Dewitt; and Barb's best friend for many years, Teresa Donahue.  Barb was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles. 

A celebration of life for Barb will be held at a later date, which will be announced in the Dewitt Observer and social media. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at the Vistas in Bettendorf Iowa for everything they did for our mom and the family during this difficult time. Everyone was compassionate and thoughtful. Thanks for taking such good care of Barbie for us, it was very much appreciated. Also, thanks to Unity Point Hospice for the care of Barbie at the end of her life.
