Betty Lou Halverson
Betty Lou (Ehde) (Nuehring) Halverson passed away Monday, March 10, 2025 at her home in West Union, Iowa.
I was born on October 24, 1935 to John and Mattie (Grotegut) Ehde from Dorchester, Iowa. I was brought up on a farm north of Waukon, where I enjoyed riding horses and being outside. I went to country school in rural areas and later Waukon Schools.
On September 10, 1954 I married Oliver Nuehring. We farmed near Waukon. To this union four children were born: Brenda (Dan) Schmitt of Waukon, Sandy (Rusty) Phillips of West Union, Grant (Heather) Nuehring of Lansing, and Kerry Nuehring of Waukon. In 1979 Oliver and I divorced.
I worked at Northern Engraving in both Waukon and Spring Grove, at Watlow Infrared in Decorah, and Cam Car in Decorah. Retiring in 1999 when Watlow shut down.
After retiring I met the love of my life, Denny Halverson. On July 12, 2003 we were united in marriage and made our home on a farm near Eldorado, Iowa. We belonged to St. Peters church in Eldorado. We enjoyed traveling when we could, and singing at assisted living facilities and nursing homes, dancing, and spending time with family.
I am survived by the love of my life, Denny Halverson, brother Gordon (Shirley) and Ehde, Stillwater, MN, I am also survived by three of my children: Brenda (Dan) Schmitt, Waukon; Rusty Phillips, Elgin and Sandy Phillips, West Union; Grant (Heather) Nuehring, Lansing.
