It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lee Keninger, age 81, at Karen Acres Health Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa on May 17th.

Lee was born at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa on January 15th, 1944. He grew up on a farm in Ackley, Iowa.

On October 17th, 1964, he was united in marriage to Karen Lindaman. Lee’s greatest joy in life were his two children, son Tim and daughter Stacy. He loved spending time with them.

Lee was in the shoe business for 30 years. He was a general manager for Younkers shoe departments in Iowa and Nebraska. He later owned his own stores in Iowa and Nebraska. In later years he was a recruiter for a Chicago based Company and traveled to every major city in the United States.

Lee is survived by his wife Karen of 61 years, his son Tim Keninger of Elkhorn, Nebraska, his daughter Stacy Zellinger of Johnston, Iowa and sister Belva Keninger of Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Lee was preceded in death by his infant son Kelly, parents Harold and Henrietta and son in law John Zellinger.

Lee’s family would like to thank Suncrest Hospice and everyone at Karen Acres for the wonderful care he received in his final days.

The family is planning a private service at a later date.
