From a previous marriage, Darrel had four children. He then met & married the love of his life, Beverly Rettenmeier. To this union, there were two children.Darrel was a hard-working man who took great pride in his work, yard, & garden. He was very proud to have gotten the designation of "Yard of the Week". Most of all, he enjoyed his time with his family. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packer. & Iowa Hawkeye fan. His career included working in the lumber / hardware business until he became part owner of Anamosa Lumber Co. After the sale of the lumberyard, he started his own business, Home Decorating Center in Anamosa, until his retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed socializing at his shop with friends & family over morning coffee.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, his parents, & his brother Richard.
He is survived by his 6 children, Rhonda, Kim, Rod, Dawn, Jason, Pamela, fifteen grandchildren, & twelve great-grandchildren.
He will be missed greatly by all who knew & loved him. We all wish we had had more time with him.
The family would like to thank his caregivers at Anamosa Care Center, Unity Point Hospice, Dr Kilburg, & the doctors & nurses at Mercy Dialysis for the care given to him over the past few months.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shriners Hospital Chicago.
