Velita Lorraine Hart

Velita Lorraine Hart, age 78, of Sumner, IA, formerly of Alpha, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025. In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated. A private interment will take place at the Alpha Cemetery, and arrangements for a future celebration of her life are currently pending.

She was born on July 21, 1947, in Cedar Rapids to LaVerne and Florence (Wickman) Shurtleff. She devoted more than forty years as a Certified Nurse Aide in Fredericksburg and Sumner, touching countless lives through her care.
Velita enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, going for car rides, cooking, and baking for others. She cherished spending time with her family and friends and was deeply loved by all.

She is survived by her daughters, Angela (Tim) Bollman and Melissa (Gene) Shindelar. Her precious grandchildren: Calvin Klimesh, Haley Klimesh, Brody (Katie) Woods, Ali (Austin) Woods, Tanner (Lexi) Bollman, Laura (Kayden) Bollman, and Kristina (Reed) Upton, along with her delightful great-grandchildren, Isabella and Kaidrian. Cherished by dear friends Gloria and Chris Patti. Lovingly remembered by her siblings: Roy (Vicki) Shurtleff, Patrick Shurtleff, and Rachel Johnson (the late Joe Rohde), as well as her nephews, Travis (Joan) and Bud (Kara) Johnson. 

Velita leaves behind a loving network of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many adored nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom hold her memory close to their hearts.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Garold Hart, who was the love of her life; her cherished son, Garold Hart Jr.; her parents; her in-laws; and several beloved relatives, including brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
