Scott Thomas Neff
Shannon,Briana and all your children plus Shawn. Please understand how much I loved Scott. He was not my kin but he was the closest brother I had. He was in fact the first friend I really ever had. The world was a darker place for me until I would remember his smile or read something, more than a little risque , he would send me. He adored his family and I am a better man for having had him as a shipmate when we started together in the Navy. Scoots routed me to the good people of Iowa where I started a family. I named my first son after Neff Fair winds and following seas Petty Officer Neff of the USS Enterprise CVAN 65, you may go ashore.
To say friend Scott was an Iowa fan is like saying water is wet or the ocean is vast. It’s the understatement of the century. I met Scott in a business group over 25 years ago and our appreciation for primarily Hawkeye Football was the perfect vehicle to base a friendship. We never got our “official” national championship but we had fun on our road trips with Shawn and the other Hawkeye faithful. My favorite trip was a pre-conference 10+ day road trip to Arizona…… the game didn’t end up as we wanted but we had plenty of golf and friends to enhance the excellent trip. The only negative (other than the loss) was his signature monster chair got stolen….. no doubt by a nefarious Wildcat. I’ll miss Scott…… he was one in a million.
Scott "Scoots" was an absolute live-wire. So much energy and the life of every gathering! In the years that I knew him, I became even more impressed with his appreciation of travel, his intelligence, and his involvement in serving his neighbors. He volunteered in helping new neighbors get acclimated at his apartment community and I observed him preparing for many of his presentations on his travels. Scoots always had a great attitude and was quick with a joke. I was proud to know him and am thankful for the many fun Thanksgiving memories I have of watching football with him, the time he dressed up as Santa for the young kids in our family, and of the time he wondered around in the summer heat in Fort Myers, FL to find my wife and I the perfect wedding gift: shot glasses. He then told us to take shots with each other, instead of at each other. Wisdom to live by. Love to Scoots and family!
