Delores (Doad) Faye Norman
On July 29, 1935, in Mingo, Iowa, Delores Faye Norman was born to Harold and Dorothy (Meyers) Shuey, and began her journey that would span ninety beautiful years and touch generations of lives. On February 26, 2026, she peacefully closed that chapter, leaving behind a legacy written not in ink, but in love.
In 1951, Delores moved to Decatur County, where she planted roots. She graduated in May of 1953 from Leon High School, carrying with her the quiet determination and steady grace that would define her life.
On June 1, 1953, she married Mickey Norman in Leon. She joined Mickey in San Francisco, where Mickey was stationed with the Marine Corps. It was there in California that their son, Rod, was born—marking the beginning of their family.
After their time in California, Delores and Mickey returned home to Iowa, where two more children were born to their union, Gayla and Karen. Together they built a life centered on hard work, devotion, and family.
In her younger years, Delores found joy in tending her flower gardens and worked faithfully alongside Mickey in their farming life. She found comfort in life’s simple, meaningful pleasures. She loved reading, always eager to turn one more page. She delighted in watching birds, finding peace in their songs and freedom in their flight. She treasured genealogy, carefully tracing branches of the family tree—honoring the past while nurturing the present.
Delores also devoted herself to her community. She served as Decatur Township Clerk for numerous years and was a member of the Decatur Booster Club and the Women’s Auxiliary. Whether serving her township or supporting local activities, she gave her time generously and with quiet dedication.
But of all the things she loved, nothing compared to her family.
Her greatest happiness was found in the laughter and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend their activities, games, and milestones. She showed up—steady, proud, and with unconditional love. She wanted her family to know:
"I care very much for each and every one of you. I wish you a lifetime of happiness, and I always tried to do my best with you all."
Delores was preceded in death by her beloved son, Rodney Norman; her parents, Harold and Dorothy (Meyers) Shuey; her siblings, Larry Shuey, Glen Shuey, and Mary Shuey; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 72 years, Mickey Norman; her daughters, Gayla Norman and Karen Schuldt (Rod); her daughter-in-law, Donna Norman; her grandchildren, Mindy Hamilton (Wade), David Norman (Andrea), Trent Schuldt (Brooke), Matt Norman (Lani), Amy McClaran (Chris), and Tara Norman-Pankey (Logan); her great-grandchildren, Lane Moore (Makayla), Carlee Carson (Tegan), Hallee Hamilton (Jaden), Cord Hamilton, Grace Norman, James Norman, Opal Norman, Leo Norman, Milo McAtee, and Brynleigh Pankey; her great-great-grandchild, Wade Moore, with one more on the way; sisters-in-law, Helen and Valerie Norman; brother-in-law, Jesse Norman; and many other relatives and friends.
