Edward Michael Schima, M.D.
Pat, Jennifer I'd like to extend my condolences for your loss. Ed is a loss to me as well. As you know I occasionally visited him while he was in the care center. This was no task of "charity" on my part, I simply liked Ed and enjoyed spending time and chatting with him. While you've lost a husband and father I've lost a good friend. Mike Gross
Dr. Schima diagnosed my mom 50 years ago with MS and she lived a full life until breast cancer took her life. Then he diagnosed my only sister with MS 30 years ago and she is still living and doing well. Then 14 years ago he diagnosed me with MS, and I expressed that I wanted to be very aggressive with this disease and he replied, "ok then I am referring you to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN because the Best of the Best MS Neurologist is at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester". I was on a treatment program for 9 years, able to go off all MS medications and have been in remission for 5 years now. I am forever grateful for having Dr. Schima care for me, my mom and my sister. He is a brilliant neurologist and will be greatly missed in the medical community. My sincere condolences.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Schima when I took my Dad to see him. He had great insight into people and conditions. I felt that he listened to concerns and offered sage advice. I appreciated the fact that he took time to talk to me directly and offer encouragement and support. I am so sorry for your loss.
To the family of Dr Schima, I was a Creighton student and internal medicine resident of your beloved family patriarch. To this day I utilize all of the neurological diagnostic skills taught to me by Dr Schima that have made a big impact on my care of patients in my small Iowa rural community. I often quote him to my patients and recall always the kindness he showed toward me as a bumbling student. I will be forever indebted and share in your grief. In Gods presence he will now be testing the reflexes of heaven….
Sending my deepest sympathy to the Schima family and wishing you peace and comfort during this difficult time.
My sincere condolences to the family of Dr Schima. We shared many breakfasts together at Bergan Mercy after I rounded on my patients. He taught me many things, not only topics in neurology but also interesting tidbits about Czech history in Iowa, a mutual interest (I have ancestral roots near CedarRapids) . His care for my patients was compassionate and straightforward. From time to time, he would send a papers on relevant topics, an example of how he not only strove to care for patients, but to also lift up colleagues.
