Michael James Carey
Mike was the ultimate childhood/adult friend. Growing up on farms a quarter mile apart we shared many adventures from terrorizing the frogs in the creek to hiding our beer under the culvert! Our playground was the road from Westgate to Maynard where the foursome of Carey, Baker, Fitz and Arthaud made their way to school. Mike always brought his sense of humor and creative pranks. He was a true friend with an infectious laugh. We shared so many adventures and whenever we connected in our senior years we were the same 'kids' again! Loved him always!
I love this picture of Uncle Mike and it brings a smile to my face, yet an ache in my heart. I always had a special fondness of Mike. Maybe because he was my Godfather but more likely because he always shared that smile when I saw him and we both shared a passion for horses. I remember when he farmed with the drafts. Back when we had big family holiday gatherings we would talk about whether either of us had made it to the last Waverly Horse Sale. He told me one time that the horse prices were "pretty salty"; a term I will never forget! The last time I saw Uncle Mike I told him about my purchase of an American Cream Draft mule from Kentucky. He hoped to get over to see her sometime. Life passes too quickly. To Mike's children and siblings: I am praying for your strength, comfort and faith in God as you go through this time of Mike's passing. Janel Thompson Cedar Falls
So sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Although I was superintendent at West Central for 3 years while Mike drove bus, I did not know of all his relatives in the area. He really was always a dependable bus driver and do not recall him having any student behavior issues on his daily routes. My prayers and sympathy to all the family members.
